About The Barefoot Physio, Exeter

Welcome to Barefoot

Family Run | Clinically Led

Founded in 2013, Barefoot started as a grassroots physio clinic with James as a sole clinician. Over the years Barefoot has grown and developed into a multidisciplinary team, with clinics in Exeter and Bovey Tracey, providing expert services and treatment. Today we pride ourselves in providing gold standard services while keeping the same friendly, personal approach we started with.

Friendly, Welcoming and Human

Good healthcare should never feel rushed, impersonal or like you are simply being moved through a system. It should start with listening.

We take the clinical side of what we do very seriously, but we believe good healthcare should feel human. That means taking time to listen, understanding what matters to you, and involving you in decisions about your care. That means being approachable, speaking to people like people and recognising that the experience of healthcare starts long before somebody walks into a treatment room.

How we work

What You Can Expect From Us

  1. Our team are experts without being intimidating, professional without being impersonal, and hold space so you feel genuinely listened to and supported.

Having different areas of expertise under one roof means our team can work together when it is genuinely helpful. Whether you are recovering from injury, managing pain, returning to exercise, navigating pregnancy or postnatal recovery, or simply wanting to move and feel better, we’re here to give you the right support at the right time and get you back to doing what you love.

  2. At Barefoot we value having different areas of expertise under one roof.

Our team works collaboratively, sharing knowledge and communicating with one another when it is useful and appropriate. That may mean a physiotherapist working alongside a massage therapist during rehabilitation, a women’s health specialist helping somebody return to exercise, or a personal trainer supporting somebody once their initial physiotherapy treatment has finished.

  3. Recovery doesn’t always fit neatly within one service.

Sometimes, the best way forward is to bring together different areas of expertise - whether that’s physiotherapy, hands-on treatment, movement, strength and conditioning, or another form of support.

One of the benefits of the team at Barefoot is that we have a range of skills and specialisms under one roof. This means that, when it’s genuinely helpful, we can work together, share perspectives and recommend additional support that complements your care.

  4. Healthcare is rarely about applying exactly the same solution to everybody.

We combine the best available evidence with clinical experience and, importantly, your own preferences, goals and circumstances.

We will explain what we think is happening, talk you through the options available and help you understand what you can do yourself.

We want you to leave Barefoot with more than temporary symptom relief, but with a better understanding of your body, greater confidence in what it can do and the tools to manage your health in the longer term.
